Germany’s recent decision to close Iranian consulates has deeply affected 400,000 Iranian citizens residing in the country. Announced by the German Foreign Minister, this decision will significantly restrict Iranian citizens living in cities such as Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, and Düsseldorf from accessing essential consular services, such as passports, identification, power of attorney, and other related documentation.
With these developments, Iranians living in Germany will be forced to travel to other countries, like France, to handle basic documentation and official processes. This situation has imposed a direct burden on their daily lives, creating both financial and emotional challenges. Iranian residents in Germany expressed their concerns, stating that needing to travel to other countries just for consular services means high costs and significant time lost. Many Iranian citizens residing in Germany are questioning, “Is this democracy?”
